Starting the week of April 27, the City’s mobile shower and bathroom facility for homeless residents will be available on Thursdays only.
The facility, located at the Community Center, 150 Wakefield St., was originally open on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, but due to the lack of use City Officials are changing the facility’s hours. City officials will continue to monitor the use of the showers and bathrooms, and adjust the hours accordingly to meet the demand.
The facility will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on are located on the side facing Wakefield Street. City staff will be on-site during these times to monitor usage, keep the unit clean and sanitized, and assist with the safe usage of the unit.
Community members do not need to sign up in advance of visiting and users will get 15 minutes each to use the facility. The shower will have soap dispensers installed and a clean towel will be provided to each person.
Those waiting for their turn will be asked to practice social distancing — keeping at least six feet between each other — while they wait.
The shower was donated by A&D Archambault Plumbing.
In addition to this shower unit, portable restroom facilities are located at the Rochester Community Center (near the shower unit) as well as at 38 Hanson Street and the Rochester Common. Gallon containers of drinking water are available for the city’s homeless residents and will be located near the portable restrooms.
