On Friday, November 8th, McClelland Elementary School welcomed some Veterans from the community to come and enjoy an assembly in remembrance and honor of all members of the Armed Services, past and present, for the sacrifices made to serve us and our Country. Music Teacher, Leanne Meiman, worked hard to make this a very special time for the Veterans in attendance.
The program consisted of a musical performance by the Piscataqua Rangers Jr., Fife and Drums Corps. The Fife and Drum Corps, which operate out of the Seacoast area, is open to all interested people between the ages of 8-18 years old free of charge. They are the only ensemble of their kind in New Hampshire and Maine. The Corps performed a number of tunes, including well known melodies such as the National Anthem and Yankee Doodle, while also including history of fife and drum regiments from America’s past.
The students of McClelland also participated in the assembly, with a reading by 5th grade students – “What is Veteran’s Day”, and a moving, singing performance of “For The Good Of The Many” by the entire school community. Students and teachers also took the time to create beautiful decorations to hang in the multipurpose room prior to the assembly.
