Local bakers whipped up a variety of desserts and pastries this May at the Rochester Public Library’s 3rd Annual Sweet Arts Baking Contest.
Seven bakers took part in the competition, preparing goods including pecan pie, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, root
beer float mini cupcakes, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, pistachio pecan party cookies, cherry frosted
chocolate cake and lazy day cookie bars.
Avalon Gable, 11, won the competition and was named “Best Baker in Rochester.” She prepared a pecan pie for the event that wowed the competition judges.
“This was a great turnout and continues to be one of our most popular events,” said Friends of the Library President Barb Graham. “It’s wonderful to see
bakers of all ages take part.”
Two themed baskets and 14 gift certificates for local businesses were also raffled off at the event.
