Local Businesswoman Shares Love of Photography with Popular Introductory Courses

4 min read

ROCHESTER — While Tanya Lee Hervey Photography may be the go-to business for an adorable portrait of a toddler, a glowing maternity photoshoot, or the perfect family photo, the longtime Rochester resident also offers popular introductory courses to budding shutterbugs.

Hervey, who has lived in Rochester since the early 1990s, launched her business five years ago. Working from home, she also employs two part-time, seasonal employees and mentors an intern each year. She offers a variety of photography services, including portrait, event, real estate, and preschool photography sessions by appointment.

In addition to photography services, Hervey also offers a Basic Digital Photography course that is open to people of all ages. The class accepts up to 10 people per five week session, and meets once a week.

During the course, Hervey teaches the history of photography, how to properly handle and use photography gear, the exposure triangle, camera settings, composition, lighting, posing, and careers in photography.

While the March session of Hervey’s Basic Digital Photography class is full, there are still spots available for the April session.

Hervey also offers one-on-one classes, and holds two major studio events each year for Mother’s Day and “Super Santa One Day.”

This year’s Mother’s Day event will take place on April 20 and April 21, and still has slots available. Her annual events include 15 minute photo sessions at reduced prices.

Each year, Hervey gives back to the local community by holding a food drive to support Gerry’s Emergency Food Pantry in Rochester, a SHARE Fund program. The food drive begins in November during her business’ Super Santa One Day event, and ends on Dec. 15. Families that contribute to the food drive are given a $25 gift card to her photography business.

Hervey also contributes silent auction items for fundraising events through her business.

Hervey is also an active member of the community. She serves as the First Vice President of the New Hampshire Professional Photographers Association (NHPPA), Vice President of the Greater Rochester Camera Club, and is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and Professional Photographers Association of New England (PPANE).

Hervey is also a member of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
